Land Rover Freezes VAT.

Barretts Land Rover News.
News from the Land Rover Dealers in Ashford and Canterbury, Kent.

LAND ROVER FREEZES VAT FOR THE WINTER

Land Rover has announced a pricing initiative to protect UK customers from the VAT increase in January 2011.

The offer, which applies to new build retail orders placed before 31 December 2010, means customers will avoid the increased VAT rate if their vehicle is registered and delivered between 4 January 2011 and 31 March 2011. The 2.5% VAT difference will be jointly funded by Land Rover and participating dealerships.*

"Protecting against the VAT increase means that customers can order with confidence, secure in the knowledge that the January tax hike will not affect their vehicle purchase," says John Edwards, managing director, Land Rover UK. "This move demonstrates that the interests of our customers continue to be at the heart of our business strategy."

In 2010, Land Rover UK sales are up 30 per cent year to date and there has been increased demand across the entire range, which boasts the most efficient and technologically advanced line-up of vehicles in the company's history.

The Land Rover Freelander 2, built at Halewood on Merseyside, continues to be the best-selling model globally, with sales up year to date by nearly 40 per cent.

In fact, demand has been so strong that earlier this year, Land Rover created 275 new jobs at the Company’s manufacturing plant in Solihull, where the Defender, Discovery 4, Range Rover Sport and Range Rover are manufactured.

New model pricing for January 2011 is also announced today, including 20% VAT, along with a pricing realignment for the Freelander 2 range which, with the addition of the new 2WD version (badged eD4), will provide customers with even greater value for money plus improved economy and CO2 emissions.

Range Rover Evoque Pop-Up Street Installations

Barrretts Land Rover and Range Rover Evoque News
News for the Land Rover Dealers for Canterbury and Ashford in Kent

RANGE ROVER UNVEIL POP UP STREET INSTALLATIONS CREATED BY FOUR PARISIAN ARTISTS TO CELEBRATE OFFICIAL LAUNCH OF RANGE ROVER EVOQUE

Paris, September 28th 2010: Range Rover has today unveiled four pop-up temporary street installations at key Parisian landmarks. The brand has worked with leading contemporary Parisian artists to create artworks which have been inspired by the new Range Rover Evoque and the city of Paris.

The installations focus on luxury, design, sustainability and technology and represent key aspects of the car. Each will be unveiled at the start of Paris Fashion Week and have been created by artists André (AKA Monsieur A), JCDC, Surface To Air and Yorgo Touplas. Each of the chosen artists has long been influenced by their city, Paris, but today they each reveal how this relationship has led to a three day street pop-up with Range Rover.

Artist JC/DC says of his installation:
“My representation of luxury references grace, intimacy and protection. This is a concept frequently related to the pleasures of enveloping oneself in a garment and my work with bespoke and couture fashion. Similar to luxury clothing, this installation reflects a graceful protection.”

The pop-up street installations have been built around a wire frame replica of the Range Rover Evoque and will be positioned at iconic locations, including the Pompidou Centre and the Palais de Tokyo. They will be in situ from September 28th – September 30th 2010 and open to the public to view.

Land Rover design director Gerry McGovern, said:
“The Range Rover Evoque has been designed with a creative and urban audience in mind. Like a true Range Rover, the Evoque delivers the all-weather, all-surface capability which is a hallmark of the brand.  Paris is the first city to see the car and we wanted to mark its arrival with a series of unique installations that epitomise the cars’ city spirit.”

Range Rover reveal at Paris Motor Show

The Range Rover Evoque will be officially unveiled at the Paris Motor Show on the 30th September. The all-new coupe is the smallest, lightest and most fuel-efficient Range Rover ever. It will be a truly global car and will be sold in over 160 markets from summer 2011.

VIP event
On September 28th a VIP event will be held on a boat moored on the River Seine to celebrate the galleries and official launch of the vehicle. The event will be styled by acclaimed set designer Petra Storrs. Actress and musician Juliette Lewis will perform a live set and A-Trak will DJ at the event.

Land Rover, Gaydon, Warwickshire, 22 September 2010 – The all-new Range Rover Evoque will make its global public debut at the 2010 Paris Motor Show on the 30th September 2010.

The Range Rover Evoque brings the acclaimed Land Rover’s LRX concept car into production reality, faithfully capturing the original design of this landmark cross-coupé concept.

In keeping with the ethos of Range Rover, the Evoque delivers premium levels of craftsmanship, luxury, performance and renowned Land Rover all-terrain capability into a shrink-wrapped more compact package.

“These are exciting times for our business,” said CEO Dr Ralf Speth. “Not only will the Range Rover Evoque increase our worldwide market share, it helps to define a new segment for premium compact SUVs that are more sporting and stylish."

Sustainability
Offering CO2 emissions sub 130g/km* and fuel economy of 58mpg* combined, the Evoque is the lightest, most fuel-efficient Range Rover ever. It is a strong demonstration of the marque’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

“This is a highly relevant and contemporary vehicle that will suit the modern needs of our customers,” said Land Rover’s Managing Director Phil Popham. “The Range Rover Evoque will appeal to a new group of customers who may not have considered a Range Rover before.”

Lightweight construction techniques and the addition of a front-wheel drive variant ensure optimum efficiency is achieved. A new range of state-of-the-art petrol and diesel engines comes with direct injection and stop-start. The Range Rover Evoque also adopts low CO2 systems such as Electric Power-Assisted Steering (EPAS) and is built to maximise end of life recyclability.

Design
The Range Rover Evoque’s dramatic exterior is based directly on the LRX concept car, which drew worldwide acclaim for its fresh interpretation of classic Range Rover design cues.

Smart design and meticulous engineering has allowed the LRX concept to be turned into reality without compromising the core Range Rover values of luxury, refined performance and all-terrain capability.

“The Evoque marks a bold evolution of Range Rover design. With its dramatic rising beltline, a muscular shoulder running the length of the car, and a distinctive taper to the floating roofline, the Range Rover Evoque adopts a very dynamic profile with a powerful and athletic stance.” said Land Rover Design Director, Gerry McGovern.

Interior quality
The Range Rover Evoque’s cabin is lavishly appointed with premium quality materials and an elegance befitting of a Range Rover interior.

Customers can specify soft, premium leather and beautifully tailored, twin-needle stitching providing a luxurious finish to almost every surface of the instrument panel, doors and seats.

A lower driving position offers a more sporting feel but retains the important Command Driving Position. Headroom is generous compared with traditional sporting saloons, despite the low-profile coupé roofline.

Dynamics
On the open road, the Evoque offers a polished driving experience that combines dynamic and sporty handling with responsive, effortless performance and refinement.

Murray Dietsch, director of Land Rover programmes, said: “We’ve tuned the Range Rover Evoque’s chassis and Electric Power-Assisted Steering (EPAS) to deliver precise and responsive steering at lower speeds, making the car nimble and fun to drive.”

This sporting character has not been achieved at the expense of comfort and refinement.  Adaptive Dynamics uses advanced MagneRide™ dampers to provide a supple, controlled ride. The suspension delivers even tighter body control, with flatter handling and sharper responses.

Capable off-road
Drivers who take their Range Rover Evoque off-road will be reassured to know that, in addition to extremely generous ground clearance, the car has significantly better breakover, approach and departure angles than other compact SUVs.

The Evoque will be the first Range Rover to offer customers a choice between a full-time four-wheel-drive system, which delivers outstanding performance and traction on all surfaces, and a low carbon, front-wheel-drive option for further enhanced fuel economy.

The Range Rover Evoque’s formidable all-terrain potential is enhanced by the latest version of the company’s signature Terrain ResponseTM system.

Powertrains
The Range Rover Evoque’s turbocharged powertrain line-up offers smooth and responsive performance, blending four-cylinder efficiency with six-cylinder refinement and power.

Customers can choose between two comprehensively updated 2.2-litre turbodiesel derivatives, with 190PS or 150PS.

The front-wheel drive Range Rover Evoque with the 150PS 2.2-litre engine achieves 58mpg* and sub 130g/km* CO2. The four-wheel-drive 2.2-litre 150PS delivers 50mpg* and 145g/km* CO2.

A new 240PS, 2.0-litre Si4 petrol engine combines direct fuel injection, turbocharging and twin variable valve timing for exceptional driveability and fuel efficiency.

Murray Dietsch, director of Land Rover programmes, said: “These impressive figures have been achieved by the product development team’s commitment to delivering a compact and weight-efficient product, with no compromise on durability and robustness.”

Innovation
The Evoque benefits from the same high-end innovative technologies as the larger Range Rovers. An intuitive control system and touch-screen display combines a stylish, uncluttered layout, state-of-the-art functionality with class-leading ease of use.

The display is available with dual-view technology, so that driver and passenger can view independent content.

Connectivity options include Bluetooth hands-free mobile phone and audio streaming, plus a range of USB and auxiliary inputs for iPods and other portable devices.

The Evoque is the first Range Rover to offer breathtaking new sound systems developed in partnership with the high-end audio specialist Meridian. The premium Meridian offering is an 825W, 17-speaker system that delivers the ultimate in surround-sound performance.

Other features available to Range Rover Evoque customers include:
  • Park Assist for automated parallel parking
  • Blind Spot Monitoring system
  • Surround Camera System with five digital cameras, including a reversing system
  • Full dual-zone automatic climate control, featuring a Park Heater timer facility
  • Hard drive navigation system
  • DAB/FM/AM/Sirius tuners, with hard drive virtual 10xCD multiplayer

headphones and touch screen remote control
  • Keyless entry system and powered tailgate
  • Adaptive headlamps with auto headlamp dipping
  • Heated windscreen, front seats and steering wheel

Three design themes
The Range Rover Evoque offers customers more choice with three main vehicle design themes, each with its own distinctive character, exterior treatment and carefully co-ordinated interior package.

‘Pure’ combines the stunning concept-car exterior with a stylish, clean interior in neutral colours. Soft-touch wrapped materials on the major surfaces contrast with the metal brushed aluminium trim.

‘Prestige’ is the ultimate in Range Rover luxury, combining a bespoke exterior that includes unique, 19-inch wheels and sparkling metallic details with an interior that is almost entirely leather-wrapped.

‘Dynamic’ brings a bolder exterior with 20-inch wheels and unique bumpers, sills, grille and tailpipes for a more assertive, confident stance. Contrasting roof and spoiler colours are available, while the premium sports interior offers sports seats with splashes of bright contrast colour.

The Range Rover Evoque will be manufactured at Land Rover’s multi award-winning Halewood plant in Merseyside, UK. The car will go on sale in more than 160 markets worldwide from summer 2011. Prices will start from £30,000.

The New Range Rover Evoque coming to Barretts in Summer 2011

Barretts Kent Land Rover News
The Range Rover Evoque

The Orangery, Kensington Palace, London 1st July 2010 – The first official picture of the all-new compact Range Rover is released today, following an exclusive preview in London for guests attending a 40th birthday celebration of Range Rover held in partnership with VOGUE magazine*.

Named the Range Rover Evoque, this all-new coupé will join the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport line-up in the summer of 2011. It will be the smallest, lightest and most fuel efficient Range Rover ever produced. Customers have a choice of both a 4WD and a 2WD version, with a sub 130g/km CO2 demonstrating the Range Rover brand's commitment to environmental sustainability.

Kensington Palace

Phil Popham, managing director of Land Rover said: "Today is a very special occasion for Range Rover, not only are we celebrating 40 years of the brand, we are also demonstrating our exciting future by showing the all-new Range Rover Evoque. Range Rover is one of the most highly regarded and iconic vehicles in the history of motoring and has been a continuing success since we first introduced it in 1970. The all-new Range Rover Evoque, is an important step for the future continued success and growth of the brand. Customers can be confident that the new car will be premium, luxurious and just as special as the other Range Rover models. Its sporting looks and unique qualities will open the brand to a new group of customers who may not have considered a Range Rover product before.

"The all-new Range Rover Evoque will be built at our multi-award winning plant in Halewood, creating 1,000 new jobs in the Merseyside area, a fantastic boost to the UK economy. The Halewood plant has a reputation for excellence and quality and is recognised throughout the industry as a leader in Lean Manufacturing.

"The all-new Range Rover Evoque is a true global car and will be sold in over 160 countries. It was important to give the car a name that was instantly recognisable through language and cultural boundaries throughout the world. We wanted to create a new name which was innovative and different. A name which implies exclusivity and arouses emotions. Evoque is cosmopolitan and cross-continental, sophisticated and matches the car's urban elegance," he added.

Gerry McGovern, Land Rover design director said: "The Range Rover is an iconic design that has stood the test of time and it's not difficult to see why. Like the current version, the original Range Rover is such a simple and memorable shape that is easily recognisable.

"The all-new Range Rover Evoque marks a bold evolution of Range Rover design, providing customers with a desirable, premium and compact car like SUV. In 2008 we introduced the LRX concept car: after a positive reception worldwide, the natural step for the business was to turn the LRX concept car into reality. Tonight we wanted to show the world that we have stayed true to our word and delivered a car that completely represents the spirit of the LRX concept.

"The all-new Range Rover Evoque will resonate with customers on an emotional level. Its unique silhouette accentuated by the distinctive falling roof and dramatic rising waistline creates a modern and relevant execution of the familiar Range Rover design language. This car makes a powerful statement of the Range Rover's brand intent to appeal to a wider audience," he added.

The all-new Range Rover Evoque will make its global public debut at the Paris Motor Show at the end of September and will go on sale from next summer.

*Range Rover's partnership with VOGUE magazine for this celebration links back to 1981 when the first factory-produced limited edition Range Rover 'In-Vogue' was used by VOGUE magazine for a fashion shoot in Biarritz, France. This special edition led to Range Rover adopting the 'Vogue' nameplate in 1983 which is still a specification choice on the car today – the Range Rover Vogue.

Discovery 4 - Britain's Best Towcar

Barretts Land Rover News
THE LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 4 SCOOPS BRITAIN’S BEST TOWCAR AWARD

The Land Rover Discovery 4, launched in September 2009, has been awarded ‘Britain’s Best Towcar’ in the annual Practical Caravan, The Camping & Caravanning Club & What Car? Towcar awards 2010.

The Discovery 4 3.0 TDV6 XS, which features a class-leading 3500kgs towing ability and comes with optional intelligent towing technologies such as Tow Assist and Trailer Stability Assist, won its class and the overall title emphatically against tough competition from the likes of the Mercedes-Benz E350 CDI Blue Efficiency Sport Estate, the Volvo XC60 D5 SE Geartronic, the Range Rover Sport 3.0-litre TDV6 HSE and the Kia Sedona 2.2 CRDi 3 auto.

David Motton, Towcar editor, Practical Caravan hailed the Discovery 4’s all round capability, saying: “The Land Rover Discovery 4 is an exceptional car. The old model was one of our favourite towcars, but the new Discovery 4 improves upon it in just about every area. It’s hard to say whether the 3.0-litre engine or the superb ride and handling deserve top billing.

“Most cars picked up far lower scores for practicality than for towing, a sign that manufacturers really need to think harder about towcar drivers’ needs. Land Rover leads the way, though. With its full-size spare, self-levelling suspension, Trailer Stability Programme, huge boot and many more practical features, the Discovery 4 ticks more boxes than just about any other car. It’s the best car in this year’s tests by some margin and a more than worthy overall winner,” he continued.

Anthony Bradbury, marketing director, Land Rover UK, said: “This is a hugely significant award for the Discovery 4 - which was comprehensively updated last year - and a true testament of the vehicle’s overall capability, package and refinement. With seating for seven, powered by the new LR-TDV6 3.0-litre diesel engine which delivers better fuel economy and a whopping 600Nm of torque, and a number of new, user-friendly technologies, it is the ideal towing vehicle and we are delighted to have been recognised in this way by Practical Caravan, The Camping & Caravanning Club and What Car?”

Priced from £35,640 on the road, the Discovery 4 is on-sale now at Land Rover dealerships throughout the UK. For more information or to book a test drive, visit your local Barretts Land Rover dealerships

o 510PS, 625Nm torque, EU5

“The 2011 Range Rover retains its position as one of the world's most complete luxury vehicles. Its combination of reduced CO2 emissions and superior engine performance continue to make it a clear industry benchmark. And with the introduction of our all-new 'super diesel', we see the Range Rover delivering over 30mpg for the first time.”
Phil Popham, Land Rover Managing Director

A new, class-leading V8 diesel engine, new 8-speed transmission, two significant Terrain Response® upgrades and subtle external styling all combine to ensure the 2011 Range Rover retains its crown as king of the luxury SUV segment.

The LR-TDV8 4.4-litre with parallel sequential turbocharging replaces the outstanding LR-TDV8 3.6-litre and is unique to the Range Rover. An all-new ‘super-diesel’, the LR-TDV8 combines superior power and massive torque with unparalleled levels of refinement. Despite the extra performance, this sublime V8 engine is cleaner too, delivering even lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions than its predecessor and meeting the stringent EU5 emissions standards. The headline news, though, is that the combined cycle fuel consumption of the new LR-TDV8 4.4-litre is just 30.1mpg, making this the first Range Rover ever to better 30mpg.

With 313PS and 700Nm torque, the Range Rover’s new powertrain matches power with conscience, reducing CO2 emissions by an impressive 14 percent. The new diesel engine is helped in this respect by its marriage to an impressive new, electronically controlled, ZF 8HP70, 8-speed automatic gearbox tuned by Land Rover engineers to combine silky smooth shifting with exceptionally rapid response and outstanding fuel economy. This daunting combination is enough to catapult the Range Rover from rest to 60mph in a mere 7.5 seconds and complete the 50mph-75mph dash in just 5.1 seconds.

Available only on 4.4-litre LR-TDV8 models, this ‘smart’ transmission integrates with the diesel engine to deliver the most efficient operating regime in all conditions. To reflect the performance of the new 4.4-litre LR-TDV8, diesel models are fitted with the same Brembo-based braking system fitted to the 5.0-litre LR-V8 supercharged model. Providing the immense stopping power required for only the highest performing vehicles, the system comprises 380mm ventilated front discs with unique, lightweight aluminium six-piston opposed action monoblock calipers. 365mm ventilated discs with single piston sliding calipers are fitted at the rear.

For 2011, the Range Rover retains the same class-leading 5.0-litre LR-V8, supercharged petrol engine married to the ZF HP28 6-speed automatic transmission introduced in 2010. Developing 510PS and 625Nm torque the Supercharged LR-V8 will take the Range Rover from 0-60mph in a breath-taking 5.9 seconds.

The 2011 Range Rover is further enhanced by improvements to the Terrain Response® system in the form of Hill Start Assist and Gradient Acceleration Control. Inside the cabin there are optional illuminated treadplates for the front doors, new transmission controls for the diesel model, and improvements to the entertainment system. 200,000th Land Rover Freelander 2

Barretts Land Rover Kent News
Land Rover celebrates the production of the 200,000th Freelander 2

Land Rover is today celebrating another milestone achievement – the 200,000th Freelander 2 has rolled off the line at its award-winning plant in Halewood, Liverpool, just three years after production began.

The vehicle, a Freelander 2 TD4_e in Biscay Blue, is destined for a customer in the UK, Land Rover’s largest market. Freelander 2 became the first SUV vehicle in the world to use intelligent Stop/Start technology in early 2009. Since then, Stop/Start has been fitted as standard to all diesel manual Freelander 2 vehicles and accounts for almost 50% of Freelander 2 sales globally.

Halewood Operations Director Michael Straughan said, "This achievement is thanks to the Halewood workforce, who have continuously driven improvements since the launch of Freelander 2 to maximise customer satisfaction. I'd like to congratulate the Halewood workforce on this team achievement."

The positive sales trend continues for Land Rover globally with sales up 29.7% for April and 35.2% year to date. The UK remains the largest market for Freelander 2 with sales up 79.3% year to date.
