New Range Rover Evoque Production
NEW RANGE ROVER EVOQUE STARTS PRODUCTION
• First production Range Rover Evoque built at Land Rover’s Halewood manufacturing plant.
• Exceptional global and UK market response: 18,000 advance orders from customers worldwide.
• Major contribution to UK economy: new Evoque has a £2 billion annual export value, with a further £2 billion spent with UK-based suppliers. The new Range Rover Evoque passed an important milestone today when the first production vehicle was driven off the line at Land Rover’s Halewood manufacturing plant in Liverpool.
Jaguar Land Rover's CEO, Ralf Speth together with JLR executive officers, union representatives and employees, gathered to celebrate the start of new Range Rover Evoque production. The first car to come off the line will be donated to the British Motor Industry Heritage trust.
"The Evoque is an incredibly exciting vehicle that joins a product range which across both of our brands is the strongest we have ever had – and it fits in perfectly." commented Dr Ralf Speth, Jaguar Land Rover Chief Executive Officer." The teams that have designed engineered and built the new Evoque, working together with our research and supplier partners, can be immensely proud of their achievement. Worldwide interest in our new car has been exceptional, with 18,000 customer orders received from customers eager to be among the first to own the new Range Rover.
Halewood Operations is central to the success of the Evoque, with the workforce doubling to more than 3,000 employees in order to deliver the new model. Seventy-five per cent of production is destined for export to more than 170 countries around the world, adding around £2 billion to the UK economy. Moreover, 50 per cent of the components in new Evoque are made in Britain, with contracts worth another £2 billion awarded to more than 40 UK supplier businesses.
“It is a groundbreaking product, a Range Rover with concept car looks, lightweight technologies and the capability to deliver 50mpg fuel economy. At the same time it’s still a true Range Rover that’s agile, nimble, designed to survive in the urban jungle and capable of tackling the toughest climates and terrains thanks to Land Rover’s legendary all-wheel drive expertise.” Speth added
The launch of the Range Rover Evoque is just one of 40 new product actions that Jaguar Land Rover will carry out in the next five years in the most ambitious market offensive in the history of its two brands. This product creation programme is supported by annual investment of £1.5 billion in developing new models, engines, technologies and vehicle lines.
Currently Jaguar Land Rover directly employs almost 19,000 people in the UK, and indirectly supports up to 140,000 further jobs through its supply chain, dealer network and associated business operations. Its success is reflected in after-tax profits of £1.043 billion for the 2010-2011 fiscal year.

2011 Towcar Awards
LAND ROVER CELEBRATES DOUBLE AWARDS SUCCESS FOR DISCOVERY 4- Discovery 4 honoured in 2011 Towcar Awards: 3.0 SDV6 XS model named winner of the 1900kg category for the second year running
- Anti-theft protection earns insurance industry award: Discovery 4 Commercial acclaimed in British Insurance Vehicle Security Awards
Gaydon, Warwickshire, 16 June 2011 – The awards keep coming for Land Rover’s impressive Discovery 4, with new honours announced on the same day for its performance as a towcar and for the anti-theft protection provided on the Discovery 4 Commercial.
For the second year running, the Discovery 4 3.0 SDV6 XS has been named the winner of the 1900kg-plus category in the UK’s 2011 Towcar Awards, organised jointly by Practical Caravan and What Car? magazines and the Camping and Caravanning Club.
The awards are the acknowledged benchmark for towcar performance, and the 1900kg-plus category once again recognises Discovery 4’s peerless capabilities. In rigorous tests, it outperformed rival contenders that included the Audi Q7, Mercedes-Benz ML and Volkswagen Touareg.
Nigel Donnelly, Practical Caravan editor, said: “Last year’s overall champion easily retains its class crown, it’s going to take a really exceptional car to beat it.
“The Land Rover Discovery 4 is a tremendous car to tow with. Its high-speed stability is the equal of any car– line the outfit up on a straight road and you could almost drive it blindfold. If you have the means, the Discovery remains an exceptionally good towcar.”
Land Rover received its award at a presentation ceremony held at Woburn in Bedfordshire, UK, on 15 June.
Another award followed, this time from the UK insurance industry. The 2011 British Insurance Vehicle Security Awards (BIVSA) judged the Discovery 4 Commercial to offer the best standard security package among 4x4 vans in the UK new vehicle market.
The Discovery 4 took top spot in a hard-fought category, judged on design and features that protect against both theft of the vehicle and the theft of items from it. Key elements in the Discovery 4 Commercial that helped secure it the top ranking include excellent body security measures and effective vehicle identification features.
Colin Green, managing director of Land Rover UK, said: “These latest awards further confirm the breadth of Discovery 4’s market-leading performance, as judged by independent experts. We are confident that our customers will be even more assured that they are making the right choice thanks to these and the many other honours that the Discovery 4 has received.”
