 RANGE ROVER EVOQUE WINS CAR DESIGN OF THE YEAR
The Range Rover Evoque has won best production car in the 2010 Car Design News, Car Design of the Year awards. This highly regarded accolade is the first major international award for the Range Rover Evoque, which is already shaping up to be the most exciting car of 2011.
The Evoque beat competition from the Alfa Romeo Giulietta and the Audi A7 to take top honors by a considerable margin. Significantly, the Car Design of the Year Award represents the opinions of automotive designers, including a number of leading industry Design Directors who sit on the judging panel.
The Award was presented to Gerry McGovern, Land Rover Design Director at the Car Design Night, held on the opening evening of the Geneva Motor Show.
"I am delighted to accept this prestigious award on behalf of the Land Rover Design team. This is a particularly special accolade as it represents recognition from peers in the industry," said McGovern.
Car Design News Editor, Eric Gallina, who presented the Award said: "The Evoque represents the best translation from concept car to production vehicle we have seen in recent times. It's clear to see why it was chosen."
"The Evoque translates the brand identity of Range Rover to a smaller, very relevant product, without becoming retro or derivative," added Joe Simpson, Associate Editor. To coincide with the Car Design of the Year Award, Land Rover has released a short film showing behind the scenes footage of the Evoque design process. The film gives an insight into the design inspiration for the vehicle, including designers' viewpoints on how the groundbreaking Evoque will create and conquer an entirely new sector of the market.
The film is the first in a series of four, giving an insider’s view of the Evoque development story – from initial design, through rigorous calibration and development processes to final engineering tests. The Car Design of the Year Award comes hot on the heels of several domestic accolades for Evoque including a Design Award from Czech publication 'Auto Design and Styling' and 'Best SUV of 2011' awarded by the Motor Press Editorial Group in Portugal.  LAND ROVER FREELANDER 2 WINS PARKERS' NEW CAR AWARD 2011
Gaydon, Warwickshire, 16 March 2011 – Land Rover's Freelander 2, has scooped the 4x4 category accolade in the Parkers' New Car Awards 2011. The 2011 Freelander 2 features a refined 2.2 litre diesel engine offering two power outputs – the 190hp SD4 and the 150hp TD4. Class-leading on and off-road performance, featuring Terrain ResponseTM, a premium cabin, improved fuel economy and an affordable cost of ownership ensures a winning package. The Parkers New Car Awards aim to identify 'the cars that make your cash go further' and are based on hard facts powered by the Parkers cost of motoring tool. The cost of motoring tool enables consumers to easily identify the costs of a new or used car, taking into account all of the costs such as servicing, showroom tax, fuel consumption and depreciation. LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 4 NAMED 'BEST LUXURY 4X4' BY CARBUYER.CO.UK
Gaydon, Warwickshire, 8 March 2011 – Surely the most decorated SUV ever, the Land Rover Discovery 4 has scooped yet another award, being named 'Best Luxury 4x4' in the inaugural CarBuyer.co.uk awards.
The supremely versatile seven-seat Discovery 4 features a powerful and highly efficient TDV6 3.0 litre diesel engine, fresh exterior identity and a premium cabin. The latest technologies such as Terrain ResponseTM offer class-leading dynamics both on and off-road.

The Discovery 4 has won awards including, in the UK, 4x4 Magazine's Car of the Year and the Scottish Car of the Year, internationally, the Best 4x4 for Spain's Car and Driver, Best Annual SUV for Autocar in China and All-Round SUV of the Year for Bloomberg's USA.

NEW RANGE ROVER EVOQUE CONCEPT ROAD BIKE REVEALED AT GENEVA SHOW

Light, nimble and boasting a design that is clean, cool and utterly contemporary, the newest member of the Range Rover Evoque family breaks cover at the Geneva Motor Show. Created by the Land Rover design team, headed up by director, Gerry McGovern, the Evoque bike is a machine designed in every aspect to deliver fast, agile and secure road-racing performance.
The central element is a high modulus carbon fibre monocoque frame, crafted by Karbona using techniques derived from Formula 1. The oversized carbon fibre handlebar stem and aerospace alloy handle bars were specified to complement the rest of the bicycle, and are engineered to cope with the high torque developed by top-class sports cyclists and ensure safe control of the machine at high speeds.
The advanced composite construction allowed the seat tube section to be integrated into the frame, saving weight and extending the clean flow of the design. The steering components are colour-matched to the frame, which carries Range Rover and Evoque branding graphics. The transmission is a 20-gear Shimano Ultegra system.
The steering bearings are integrated into the head of the frame to reduce drag and the steering fork is also made of carbon fibre. Echoing the attention to luxury detailing that is fundamental to all Range Rover products, the drivetrain and braking systems are finished in matching black chrome and the saddle is upholstered in fine leather, with padded grip tape enhanced with silicone gel.
The wheels were specially commissioned for the Evoque project and have a strong visual impact. Formed from aero-profiled carbon fibre, they have a deep section designed to cut through the air quickly while maintaining stability.
Secure performance is further supported by the tyre tread, which is constructed from triple-density rubber compound with hard-wearing and high-grip qualities.
Gerry McGovern, Land Rover design director, a keen cyclist himself, said: "I wanted to create the ultimate accessory for the Range Rover Evoque – and what could be more perfect than an utterly contemporary, beautifully designed, bespoke Evoque bike. Like the Range Rover Evoque, the bike not only looks fantastic but is precision engineered for ultimate performance."
